Sonny Phono is a bit of a Wild Card. We never know what he’s going to do or play. He got his start at Roosevelt Junior High in San Diego playing Metallica and Eazy E songs over the P.A. at lunch hour. He collected records since his teenage years but didn’t start actively DJing until he was called upon to open up for Mike Czech and Unite on the weekly Saturday called “Steez” at The Rhythm Lounge in 2000. He moved to San Francisco in 2001 and started playing around various happy hours and dinner jams (notably Sunday night Love Jam sets at Emmy’s Spaghetti Shack) paying dues before moving on to late night gigs. HIs education at SDSU and his weekly radio show at KCR led him into a career as a Sound Engineer and Stage Manager through his 20’s. He currently presideds over a weekly Wednesday at Madrone Art Bar called “Rock The Spot” and can be found there on some weekends for “I <3 The 90s”(4th Fridays) and “The No Theme Super Dance Jam Saturday Night” (5th Saturdays). Wicked on the Wheels and Magic on The Mic, Sonny brings another level of fun and hijinks to any crowd for any type of event. Fam Royal Crew members may be spotted at his jams in San Francisco and he loves to represent when he comes home to S.D.
